Tools and routines for mental stability and emotional resilience to overcome psychological
challenges of living and working abroad
In a globalized world, in a globally active company, and consequently in a team composed of different cultures and nationalities, knowledge of other cultures is essential. Different values, norms, and work attitudes are a challenge to cross-cultural communication and can trigger tensions within the team. It is therefore crucial to develop “intercultural empathy” at the leadership level as well as in each team member, an understanding of different linguistic exchanges and the understanding of nonverbal cues.
The Chinese market has been and continues to be highly attractive for many German companies. Also, Germany is a popular investment location for Chinese entrepreneurs. However, entering the
other market often leads to a “culture shock” for managers working in the other country but also for employees who work in multicultural teams. Starting a new professional chapter in another
country is exciting – but not always easy. In addition to intercultural challenges, language
barriers and new working environments, it is often the inner balance that is particularly challenging.
Integrating foreign employees into local teams is no less challenging. The behavior of a manager has an impact on the commitment, motivation and mental health of employees.
This three-part workshop organized in cooperation with the Techniker Krankenkasse, DCW’s official health partner, will offer you a vast toolkit to navigate the challenges of intercultural teams, especially from the perspective of a manager from the HR sector.
The workshops are free of charge for DCW members. For non-members, one workshop costs €25, and all three cost €50.
